Get to Know the StreetWise 'MBA'™ Network
Matthew St. Onge
President and Executive Director
2004 StreetWise ‘MBA’™
Boston Building Resources encompasses two sister organizations that help homeowners and renovators make a positive impact on their communities and the environment as they care for and improve their homes.
The consumer co-op was founded in 1978 as a response to the energy crisis and provides materials for home improvement with a focus on:
- kitchen design
- windows & doors
- green products.
The Reuse Center at Boston Building Resources was launched in 1993 to cut down on the amount of materials that were being wasted and thrown away instead of reused. The Reuse center accepts donations of new and gently used materials for resale to the general public, as well as members at a discounted rate.
From the beginning, Boston Building Resources has been focused on helping their neighbors help themselves. What began as in-home demonstrations has transformed into hands-on educational workshops centered on home improvement. Matthew is motivated to keep the company sustainable so that they can continue providing such a great community service. Additionally, Boston Building Resources is committed to being a leader in the community – one example: they are outfitted with solar panels.
Matthew’s largest challenge has been dealing with confusion over the two related organizations. Until recently, the organizations operated under two separate names, which caused confusion among customers and the public. Because of this, they recently went through a rebranding process that united both under one name – Boston Building Resources. Matthew says this process has brought the two organizations closer together and has been a very important internal shift that has built solidarity and camaraderie.
